18th Annual NYSFSMA Conference - Suffern, NY Important Information!

Published on 8/6/2018

The New York State Floodplain and Stormwater Managers Association is excited to announce the 18th Annual Meeting.

Dates:  April 15-17, 2019

Location:  Crowne Plaza Hotel - Suffern, NY, right off Exit 14B of the New York State Thruway, I-87 / I-287

Suffern is in Rockland County just west of the Tappan Zee Bridge.  It is less than 2 hours from Albany, an hour from New York City, an easy drive from Long Island, 2 1/2 hours from Binghamton, under 4 hours from Syracuse, and a worthwhile trip from western New York.  Suffern is also accessible via New Jersey Transit's Suffern line.

There are many opportunities for local floodplain related tours, including areas along the nearby Hudson River that are threatened by sea level rise.

2020 Annual Meeting planning underway!

We have also begun planning for 2020 at the Landing Hotel at Mohawk Harbor in Schenectady.  The new complex was constructed along the Mohawk River / Erie Canal and provides a harbor, newly opened eating and drinking establishments, and easy access to Schenectady's booming downtown restaurant and entertainment area.  The site is also close to Schenectady's historic Stockade neighborhood, which offers opportunities for tours and discussions on flooding, ice jams, and attempts to mitigate historic structures.

Schenectady is easily accessible from any part of New York, and is on Amtrak's Empire Service, with six daily trains to and from downstate and four daily trains to and from western New York.

Yes we are planning two years out!
