About this event
Instructor: Janet Thigpen, CFM, Flood Mitigation Specialist for the Southern Tier Central Regional Planning & Development Board
Description: Runoff rushing down steep slopes can contribute to flash flooding, washouts, landslides, and water quality impairment. However, these problems can be mitigated with good land use practices. The 2020 New York State Residential and Building Codes require building setbacks from steep slopes and specify that surface drainage from a foundation must be discharged into an "approved" point of collection that does not create a hazard. This webinar will discuss good practices for managing drainage on steep slopes to minimize adverse impacts, with an emphasis on planning practices in New York State stormwater management and erosion control standards.
Join us to learn how thoughtful planning and code compliance can reduce adverse impacts and protect both infrastructure and the environment.
