Changing our Dues Structure

For the first time since our founding in 2000, we are changing our dues structure. This was done after considerable discussion by the Board of Directors, after reviewing the dues of state floodplain chapters throughout the nation, and in an effort to increase our income to continue to support a membership and events coordinator in order to provide more training and other member services.


Member Benefits
Stay Informed The Association gathers articles and events of interest to inform its membership on issues of general interest. Topics include legislation affecting floodplain and stormwater management, local activities, hazard mitigation, new state and federal programs, publications, best practices, lessons learned and upcoming conferences.
Professional Development Each year, the Association sponsors a 3-day conference, providing members with training opportunities in the field of floodplain and stormwater management. Experts in the field are invited to speak on a variety of issues including floodplain management, flood hazard mitigation, hydrologic and hydraulic studies, map revisions, map amendments, state permits, stream preservation, stormwater detention and retention, wetlands, erosion control and many other topics of interest.  The Association also sponsors other trainings and information sessions throughout the year. 

Build Your Network Harness the power of over 1,000 communities across New York State to ask questions, share best practices and compare lessons learned.

Speaking in One Voice NYSFSMA members gain the ability to exchange ideas and best practices, discuss and communicate a uniform position on current concerns, local programs, and other issues impacting floodplain and stormwater management.  The NYSFSMA unified positions are formed through formal and informal discussions held during committee meetings as well as during the annual meeting. 

Gain National Perspective NYSFSMA is a state chapter of the national Association of State Floodplain Managers (ASFPM). ASFPM is the nation's most respected voice in floodplain management and related issues, and works with its 37 chapters to ensure that chapter voices are heard on the national level.

Types of Membership



Student Member: $20Reserved for full time college undergraduate or graduate students.  Membership includes member login privileges. Individual voting rights.
Individual Member: $40 Membership includes member login privileges. Individual voting rights.
Government or Non-Profit Members: $100 Public, academic or not-for-profit group. Membership includes up to 30 individuals with member login privileges. Organization has One vote.

Corporate Member(s): $150 For-profit enterprise. Membership includes up to 20 individuals with member login privileges. Profession has One vote.
Associate Member: $250 Business or Individual engaged in products, materials or related services. Entitles members to mailings and other considerations, as well as member login privileges. Non-Voting classification.

Sponsoring Member(s): $500 Business or individual engaged in products, materials or related services. Membership includes up to 10 individuals with member login privileges. Sponsor will receive appropriate recognition within the organization. Sponsor members receive individual voting rights.

  • Region 4: (Capital Region/Northern Catskills) Albany, Columbia, Delaware, Greene, Montgomery, Otsego, Rensselaer, Schenectady, and Schoharie counties
  • Region 5: (Eastern Adirondacks/Lake Champlain) Franklin, Clinton, Hamilton, Essex, Warren, Fulton, Saratoga, and Washington counties
  • Region 6: (Western Adirondacks/Eastern Lake Ontario) Herkimer, Jefferson, Lewis, Oneida, and St. Lawrence counties
  • Region 7: (Central New York) Broome, Cayuga, Chenango, Cortland, Madison, Onondaga, Oswego, Tioga, and Tompkins counties
  • Region 8: (Western Finger Lakes) Chemung, Genesee, Livingston, Monroe, Ontario, Orleans, Schuyler, Seneca, Steuben, Wayne, and Yates counties
  • Region 9: (Western New York) Allegany, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, Erie, Niagara, and Wyoming counties

Note that some membership types may have eligibility requirements which you must meet in order to sign up using that type. Then click the "Next" button at the bottom of each page to continue to the next step. Standard Member Directory



The Member Directory allows you to view other members. (Note that your own directory information can be updated by clicking the Profile link when you are logged in.) Enter search text or select from any available lists and click the "Search" button. The system will display matching members. If no search values are specified, all members will be displayed. If there are more than one page of results, use the Paging controls to see additional pages. Click the member's photo or name to see the bio for that member. (Some members have bio information that can be viewed by clicking on their name or bio image. Note that members can also choose to completely remove their names from this list.) If a map is displayed, members whose cards appear on the screen and that have valid address information will be displayed as points on the map. Users with certain visibility restrictions will be geolocated in the center of their town for privacy. It is possible that all members may not be displayed on the map.
