Description: During the floodplain map update process, also known as Risk MAP, FEMA and the NYSDEC participate in community engagement events to provide awareness of the impacts of updated floodplain maps to community officials and residents. There may be barriers within a municipality that could lead to residents not being properly informed of these countywide flood map updates.

As part of this workshop, we will discuss the FEMA Risk MAP timeline and associated checkpoints where community officials can share their input on the new maps. Newly developed outreach resources will also be shared that could assist communities going through the floodplain map update process currently or in the future. These resources include a flood map outreach toolkit for community officials in addition to template letters and promotional materials to help bring public awareness to the map update process and flood risk in general.
