The New York State Floodplain and Stormwater Managers Association (NYSFSMA) unveiled 3D models of FEMA Elevation Certificate diagrams, constructed from over 12,000 Lego bricks. Created by Matt Savatgy, the models help simplify the often confusing process of identifying building types for floodplain management. These interactive models were showcased at the 2024 NYSFSMA Annual Conference and are designed to be a valuable teaching tool for floodplain managers. NYSFSMA is developing instructions and curriculum for wider use.

A wealth of research and information about the Mohawk Watershed, maintained by Prof. John Garver at Union College. E.g., the 1/26/21 article is a detailed look at a decade of efforts to reduce flood damages in the state's first historic district, the Schenectady Stockade neighborhood.
